![]() | How I became a Vampire | Susan Stec | Novel | Fantasy | 6 | n/a | Jun 29, 2008 |
Summary:I‘d already experienced menopause, watched wrinkles become the mainstay of my facial features, and wondered if I’d ever have sex with a man that didn’t need a little blue pill. Let me say, I have always believed in vampires, and really wanted to be one. . . . That is until the incident in the public restroom with the innocent looking little cherub from hell, and my becoming the real thing. Now with a family of very vane woman, guess how that went over. An undead domino effect followed. I'm going for a comedy, so for all of you serious traditional vampire folks this is definitely not the Anne Rice, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Blade angle. And I'm here for your help, so any comments or corrections will be greatly appreciated.Chapters:

Summary:These are the first few chapters of what I hope will become a very long work of serial epic fantasy. (I aspire to being favorably compared with Robert Jordan, Stephen R. Donaldson, and George R.R. Martin.) I'll accept any and all feedback at this point. But I'm most specifically looking for feedback on the pacing of the novel, whether the action is too quiet (if you will) and really, what you believe is needed (if anything) to carry the momentum of the novel such that folks are waiting eagerly in line for the second book in the series.Chapters:
![]() | Does This Lipgloss Go With My Straightjacket? | kristy_thomas | Novel | Young Adult | 8 | n/a | Apr 19, 2008 |
Summary:I came up with the perfect excuse for why I'd be spending so much time with Gabe. Okay, so with Sam there could never be a good reason for me spending time with Gabe, but this would have to do: The Tri-County Martial Arts Tournament. I would explain to Sam that I have a burning desire to kick some serious tail at the tourney and Gabe was going to be my own private tutor. Yikes. He would hate it. But it beat telling him the truth. Hey, Sam, guess what? Gabe is actually a higher being. He was sent here to find me. My migraines - well, I've been meaning to tell you this, but I really do see dead people, and all sorts of scary stuff, but it's okay, because you see, Sam, I'm The Seer. That's right, I'm The Seer. And I'm the only thing standing between a race of higher beings that you've never heard of before and utter annihilation. I have to spend hours with Gabe every week because I'm the Obi-Wan to their Princess Leia. I'm their only hope. He'd call for the Straightjacket Brigade immediately. Who'd believe a story like that--especially with a history of mental illness in the family? No, The Tri-County Martial Arts Tournament would have to do.Chapters:

Summary:In a land where the four mystic Elements embody the magic of life, death and the realm of the next-life, Keevan just wants to fit in... if he can only stay alive long enough to learn how! This is my first novel and I'm writing it initially for the Young Adult reader. Please let me know if you think it works for that genre; especially the prelude, I'm not sure how well the narrator works here. This is my entry into the Strongest Start Novel competition. Unfortunately, two of the first 3 chapters are also the shortest. I figured a lot will change after I get feedback from the fantastic community here!Chapters:

![]() | And the Earth Trembled | tjthomas | Short Story | Fantasy | 13 | 2.96 | Mar 25, 2008 |
Summary:This is a twisted-history fantasy. I'm posting this despite my test-reader's comment (I can't slander her due to close personal relationship) - she said: "No, I don't get it." Not the end of the world, but a setback. I'm getting so used to writing with a 5000 word limit, I managed to cram it all in, but I had to wonder: is the ending too abrupt? Any comments welcomed.Chapters:

Itzamna has just seen what is reffered to by nativess as "The Return". The gods had arrived and were not leaving. Mortal and petitioners exist alongside one another, each hoping to achieve the same goal. But all the souls on Kole are there for a reason. Their gods called them from countless worlds after living countless lives, tempered and tried until they were found worthy. But what happens when souls are stolen? ![]() | STATIC MAYHEM | Sherman_Bierce | Novel | Other | 18 | n/a | Aug 18, 2006 |
Summary:Two forces drive Harrison Cody to trek from New England to Chicago on foot: a bewildering pixie named Glimmer, and Claudia, the voice on the radio who may be the only other human still alive.Static Mayhem, a mainstream novel that weaves elements of Fairy Tale, Science Fiction and Horror into a contemporary setting, tells his story. Harrison's journey reveals a North America whose human population has been replaced by dinosaurs, demons and dragons, and whose infrastructure has been reduced to a smattering of buildings holding artifacts from Earth's past and future. For all the surreal obstacles of his environment, his greatest challenge proves to be the care of two young survivors, separately orphaned and in clear need of a parent. Their eventual arrival in Chicago is punctuated by his arrest, and after clearing himself and establishing a life in this new cradle of civilization, he finds that his unanswered questions pale in importance to his new family. ![]() | Caprice | Sherman_Bierce | Novel | Other | 32 | n/a | Aug 9, 2006 |
Summary:Danny Marx is abruptly torn from his unpromising life as an average office grunt, by a woman he's had a crush on for weeks before actually meeting her. Now facing a series of unexpected and confusing threats, he finds that the more he learns about Caprice, the less sense she makes to him. This book is a bit of an experiment for me on several levels, not the least of which is to find out whether I am capable of writing a short novel. NOTE TO POTENTIAL REVIEWERS: As with any novel, the point of entry should be chapter one. With Caprice in particular, if you jump in anywhere else, you will almost certainly miss the entire point of the story. That danger will increase exponentially as I add more chapters. The kind of feedback I need more than anything else is about plot and character development, so latecomer reviews, while well-intentioned, won't be of value. Please start from the beginning.Chapters:

Summary:Lilly thought she was safe from the cruel outside world tucked away in the massive library of the school of Calnar. She battled her belief that such things truly existed. On the night of the Autumnal Festival, her peaceful existence is shattered when attacked in the library by a fellow student. Unbeknownst to Lilly, the young man who rescues her is one of the very warriors she so desperately needs to believe in. PLEASE START ANY REVIEWING WITH CHAPTER ONE, AS JUMPING INTO THE MIDDLE OF A NOVEL IS RUDE AND COUNTERPRODUCTIVE TO BOTH WRITER AND READER. *****Originally posted under Scrolls of Elburon: Book I*****Chapters:
