I got the idea from the collapse of a walkway during a tea dance at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Kansas City in 1981. Summary:I have been planning of this as a novel for several years and am returning to it in hopes I can make it work as a novel. The premise is: A thousand colonists have landed on a planet populated by what they think are animals but actually are sientient and intelligent beings, somewhat resembling squirrels, who are telepathic.
