 | The Yank Girl's Guide To Cheating Abroad | lemonlye | Novel | 2 | n/a | Jul 3, 2008 |
Summary:19-year-old Eva has a boyfriend back home in Oregon, but what American girl can resist a Scottish accent? Romancing an Edinburgh barkeep while working abroad, she knows she's taking risks. What she doesn't expect is the third guy entering the picture: a sarcastic fellow traveler who discovers her secret and becomes her unlikely confidante. Meanwhile her best friend scares herself witless ghost-hunting in Edinburgh's medieval streets, and Eva's boyfriend gets it into his head to come visit without advance warning. It will be a miracle if Eva can leave Scotland with all her relationships, and her sanity, intact.
Types of feedback? Any! I'm still tinkering with this story, but hope to get it posted this year and shape it into the type of Young Adult novel that adults enjoy too.

 | Belly of the Whale | kelley_kay | Novel | 2 | n/a | Jul 3, 2008 |
Summary:Harper Southwood thinks she is a changeling, switched at birth and dropped into a human family so her troll family could raise an attractive child. She is, of course, not really a troll--she's a teenager. She fits in nowhere, not with her beautiful family or her beautiful best friend or on this planet at all, as far as she's concerned. She has one power, or sense, which involves an awareness of when people are getting sick, but she can't sense that her mother has an extremely serious illness or her best friend suffers from a serious depression. It takes Harper dealing head on with the things she can't sense and learning to MAKE sense of them before she can renounce her trollhood and find her place in humanity.
I'd like feedback about how successful I am in portraying the voice of Harper and other characters, as well as how the pacing is working--are enough things happening and enough questions remaining unanswered as you go to build suspense as to what is going to happen next? Chapters: |
 | NORA'S FAREWELL | brosna11 | Novel | 1 | n/a | Jun 25, 2008 |
Summary:Nora, a young woman in rural Ireland, lives through the Irish Rising, World War I and the influenza epidemic before she reaches adulthood. Her large family and her village are important to her but her goal is to see Ireland free of British rule. This story began as "Kilkenny Curse" but after some revision, became "Nora's Farewell". So many reviewers have helped me edit this that I owe a great debt to all of you. I am revising it still at this date (October 18, 2007)and reposting some chapters, as necessary. Other chapters will just be revised. One has been cut entirely. This novel is based partly on family history and partly on historical opinion as found in a variety of sources. There is quite a bit of folklore here as well. President Kennedy's assassination is predicted by a prophetic spirit in a cave in Kilkenny. (A bit of folklore I invented but some of the Fitzgerald lore already exists.) Brosna11Chapters: |

Summary:Okay, here goes. I took Nadine's advice and turned the story of Callie (from defending Callie) into a novel. I have this under YA, but the target audience would be middle grade (third, fourth and fifth). Please keep this in mind when reviewing. This is a book written from a ten year old's perspective for children about the same age. The book is complete so I will be postig a chapter a day, the chapters are short. All constructive feedback is appreciated.Chapters: |

Summary:The murderer was already in the house; climbing the steps carefully and silently; he walked to the end of the corridor, for John was in the last room; the door slowly opened and the murderer walked in through the shadows; John Reed was turned to the window, with his back at the door; as the murderer walked in, Reed said:
“So you have found me…”
“You know what I want. Where is it?”
“It’s no longer here. You’re wasting your time.” Angry, the murderer walked to him and stood in front of Reed; without saying anything else, with his bare hands, he put his right hand inside Reed’s chest, squeezing his heart. In a matter of seconds, John Reed was dead.
