BODY OF KNOWLEDGE

This is my fourth round entry in an ongoing fiction writing contest. This is an embellished, fictionalized account of a scene that never happened but that I wanted to happen at one time. This scene describes the inciting incident that launched my creative writing career at the tender age of forty-seven, four years after my high school sweetheart sent me a letter at the school where I was teaching in 2001. Obviously, I never murdered him, but it wasn't for lack of wanting to. And yes, lacking any constructive means to grapple with all my feelings regarding this unnatural midlife overture from the man I considered my soul mate, I began writing in a big way.
