 | How I became a Vampire | Susan Stec | Novel | Fantasy | 0 | n/a | Jul 4, 2008 |
Summary:I‘d already experienced menopause, watched wrinkles become the mainstay of my facial features, and wondered if I’d ever have sex with a man that didn’t need a little blue pill. Let me say, I have always believed in vampires, and really wanted to be one.
. . . That is until the incident in the public restroom with the innocent looking little cherub from hell, and my becoming the real thing. Now with a family of very vane woman, guess how that went over. An undead domino effect followed.
I'm going for a comedy, so for all of you serious traditional vampire folks this is definitely not the Anne Rice, Sherrilyn Kenyon, Blade angle. And I'm here for your help, so any comments or corrections will be greatly appreciated.Chapters: |

 | When Two Trails Become One | Marilyn Johnson | Novel | Literary Fiction | 1 | n/a | Jul 4, 2008 |
Summary:"When Two Trails Become One" has a western flair that takes place in 1972, with flashbacks to 1940, and mainly centers on Jessie and Clayton as they essentially find each other again after about three decades. A "loveless marriage" and a less than fulfilling "relationship" start Jessie looking back on her past, which begins to virtually overlap with the present. In numerous twists and turns, the story explores the complexities of human nature, highlighting qualities relating to identity, beliefs, and love in various forms.
The story opens with Jessie feeling "annoyed that her seclusion is in danger of being interrupted by 'some city slicker' on horseback who wouldn't have the foggiest notion of how to find his way back down the mountain after dark." Her feelings about Jace Edwards, her live-in lover, take something of a turn, and saying "I'll be back in two weeks," she heads out for a ride up on Cry Baby Mountain to the cabin she and Clayton had discovered all those years ago. Over the last thirty-one years thoughts of Clayton had surfaced at random and usually at the most inconvenient times. Her father viewed Clayton as a 'worthless drifter' and had told Jessie she was never to lay eyes on him again, and Clayton felt Jessie didn't stand up for him. As the narrative moves back and forth in time marking certain experiences that may lead to a reunion of sorts, Jessie and Clayton strive to reconcile their individual motivations and responses. When she seemingly goes missing, a rescue team takes action and the sheriff commences an investigation into 'who attacked Jessie up on Cry Baby Mountain.'
In the concluding pages of the story, the sheriff focuses a degree of attention toward Dakota Jay, a longtime friend of both Jessie and Clayton. A journal entry from Clayton furnishes some potentially unexpected information, and Jessie ponders whether or not, in her overzealous quest to find Clayton, maybe she had overlooked some important details.
With elements of suspense and emotion, this offering is designed to capture the imagination as well as to provoke thought. The possibility of a sequel is left open with Jessie heading down "a dirt road with Clayton's blue hand-painted truck just ahead" and thinking to herself, "sometimes love isn't so much about what you give as it is what you don't give." | The Wisdom of Repugnance--CHAPTER 1-The Happy Tongue Incident | Jeni Decker | Novel | Humor | 1 | n/a | Jul 4, 2008 |
Summary:For your consideration:
The Wisdom of Repugnance ( formerly titled THREE SHORT WOMEN )follows a necrophiliac mortician exploring his paraphelia with a therapist, while the death of his father rattles the matriarch of his family.
... a brief synopsis of the piece.
Bill has a problem. He likes dead people... a bit too much, and with his job at a local morgue, that makes things a bit dicey. Meanwhile, Daddy's busy at home dying while he discusses his sexual par aphelia with an expert, who fills him in on the 'Wisdom of Repugnance', that internal shudder that we are all 'supposed' to have that helps us differentiate between, say, someone who loves kids, and someone who loves kids. Throw in three short women, polar opposites of others written more 'delicately balanced' in years past under the quill of a Mr. Edward Albee and what you have are three crass women who could reside in any local trailer park or suburb, grappling with past and present issues while watching the family patriarch die.
... why this play might be of interest I can't think of anything more universally global than our shared, and oft shamed sexual peccadilloes...

Summary:I started playing around with a character from the novel, and ended up doing some research on adoption. I think there's a few too many cheesy moments in here. | The City | Whalehead King | Short Story | Literary Fiction | 4 | 0.54 | Jul 3, 2008 |
Summary:This is a tough one. I think I may have bitten off more than I should be chewing considering this series is supposed to be jaunty motorcycle fare. Death, and its threat, has been featured quite a bit though and people have been focussing on the speed more than I intend. In this piece, I am quoting references from all over the map and trying to distill a bit of urban lifestyle philosophy into the motorcyle milleu. I am not sure it works. It is all pressed through my patented whalehead filter (TM), but I'm not convinced this belongs in the series. I don't think it;s bad, I am not sure that it is clear. Commentary, please, will be much appreaciated. Thumbs up or thumbs down? Shoule this live or be buried? Thanks in advance and Happy Independence Day.Chapters: |

Summary:When I posted six chapters of a novelette, entitled, "Double Take," I received quite a lot of reviews and suggestions. The suggestions were to: Flesh out the characters more, tell us more about the planet and background, add more action, more about Bearach (spelled Baarach in the original), and make it into a novel. I have listened and this is the real beginning. I will revise and insert the original somewhere in the novel. I know where I want to go with it and I will write it as I post it. The main character will still be Ryon, whom you will find was an extraordinary baby. Your former feedback is much appreciated. I hope I have incorporated most of your suggestions in the story.Chapters: |
